Amphibians
Typically tadpoles first, they often become land animals that stay close to water. There are about 8,000 known species.

Birds
These feathered creatures lay hard-shelled eggs and have two legs. There are about 11,000 known species.

Fish
As aquatic creatures, they use gills to breathe and fins to swim. There are more than 30,000 known fish species.

Invertebrates
Lacking a spinal cord, invertebrates are soft-bodied animals. They are also the largest group, with 1.25 million species.

Mammals
Fur, being born alive and complex brains are common mammal traits. There are more than 5,000 living species of mammals.

Reptiles
Cold-blooded reptiles are both scaly and usually egg-laying. There are more than 10,000 species.
