Denali National Park and Preserve in located in central Alaska.
Denali National Park is located in the interior of Alaska, along a road connecting Anchorage and Fairbanks. I grew up in Anchorage, within sight of Mount McKinley on clear days. Mount McKinley is the largest peak in North America, at more than 20,000 feet. When I visited the park in 2013, it was in July, at the peak of summertime in Alaska. It was warm weather at lower elevations. I took a bus tour through the park, where I saw tons of wildlife – bears, dall sheep, caribou, moose, foxes and even a porcupine.

What: Red Fox
When: July 2013
Where: I spotted this red fox while on a bus tour of Denali National Park. The bus driver stopped to let us take pictures. The fox was not phased by our presence.
How: We scheduled the bus tour in advance on the National Park Service’s website about Denali.
Of note: The driver mentioned the fox had a den nearby where there were kits (baby foxes). Foxes hunt mostly at night, but do come out in daytime to hunt for their kits.
